[Alternate 1]

Since I'm all caught up on my editing, I thought I'd go back and play around with some of my favorite shots from the Redeux Vintage promo shoot I did a few weeks ago.

This is the gorgeous Khadijah O'Rourke.

Sunday Sunday Sunday!

Bam-5000

Last Sunday I had the fun privilege of photographing the local roller derby team's holiday invitational, River City Rollergirls' Seasons Beatings. This annual event is always an awesome time and skaters from hundreds of miles away come together and celebrate the sisterhood of roller derby...with a few guys thrown in for good measure. This year, they played 8 half-hour long mini-bouts, mixing the skaters up into many combinations of teams.

If you'd like to see the full sets of photos, bouts 1-4 can be found here and bouts 5-8 can be found here.

And finally, in the image above, we have a really cool action sequence of the black team's pivot, Pinky Tuscadero, leveling they white team's jammer with a clean hit.  This particular bout was Skaters (black) vs Refs (white).

Hello, new gear!

Photo

On Monday, I ordered myself a Canon 5D Mk II to upgrade my aging 50D
and I must say I'm excited to get shooting with it. I've been more
patient for this than just about anything else in my life, waiting
over 2 years to buy this.

It arrived today. Yes!

The attached photo is one I took with a friend's 5D Mk II of beautiful
Alaskan model Danika Alexander while I was on vacation in July.

I'm expecting more good things to come!

Mary Kay Monday

What better way to rebound from 24 hours in my sickbed than to provide before & after headshots for my friend Kirsten Hayden Mary Kay event, going on now? I can't think of any!

Look! Another post!

Diane-vintage-collage-1800

A very dear friend of mine busted my chops about how although she and I had finished editing shoots about the same time, *I* wasn't done yet since I hadn't blogged it.

Well, now I have.

I present, again, Diane Sokolowich!

"But Mike! You don't do vintage shots very often!"

I know, I know. But when you've got such a fantastic vintage wardrobe, how can you not?

Blog linkage

Just a quickie here. I am attempting to link my blog to my facebook fan page. Let's see if it worked!

Another Long Silence Broken

Morgan-collage-web

It seems every time I post I'm lamenting that it's been a long time since my last blog post. I vow that I will TRY to do better. But I suppose you could look at it this way: if I'm too busy to post, it's probably because I'm taking or editing photos :)

Here is just a small sample of some headshots I took for a local Richmond actress named Morgan Barbour. There's a very real chance one of these will end up on imdb.com one day!

For now, you can see larger versions of the individual shots in the Acting Headshots album on my facebook page.

Bragging a little

03

I'm not to sure how much this is going to make a difference professionally for me, but I still feel pretty awesome about something I found out tonight.

One of the models that I recently shot (see Courtney in my last post) attended a casting for America's Next Top Model and submitted two of my photos from our shoot to them. She's been invited to New York City to meet with Tyra Banks and the producers of ANTM.

Now I know I can't claim that it was my photos that got her the invite, but they definitely didn't hurt!

And since I really don't like posting on this PHOTOGRAPHY blog without giving you at least one photo, here's a shot of Courtney from a shoot last spring.

Shoots from the last few weeks

I hinted recently that I was gearing up to being busy without giving many details. Now is the time for a few peeks from recent shoots. Below, you'll see one shot from each of my last model shoots. Turning Lemons Into Lemonade

Once again I've fallen behind in my blogging, so here is a quick rundown:

Since my trip to Nashville in October through the end of 2010, I had a grand total of 4 model shoots, 1 roller derby bout shoot, and one a capella concert shoot for RAMifications of Virginia Commonwealth University.

2011 started slowly with my first shoot being some new headshots for local actor Jessica Dole's comp cards on January 17th.

A week and a half later things started speeding up when I journeyed to Virginia Beach to photograph the VIP Exclusive runway fashion show and then a roller derby double header the next night on January 29th.

Finally last night I was scheduled to shoot a boudoir-themed shoot with a model from Maryland that would be in town for one night. This fell through yesterday afternoon when the model found out we were forecasted to get some snow. I certainly couldn't fault her for not making the trip under these circumstances. I was in a quandary though, as I had already secured a location to shoot.

So I turned lemons into lemonade. I started reaching out to many of my local model contacts that I thought might be interested. To make a long story short I had not only one but TWO great boudoir shoots back to back to replace the one that fell through. No samples yet since I got home WAY too late to work on them.

I do like lemonade.
